Israeli media reported that the consultations were held shortly after Netanyahu spoke directly by phone with US President Donald Trump in the immediate aftermath of the Iranian missile barrage — a call that carried significant weight for the trajectory of the escalating conflict.
Israeli media further reported that Trump urged Netanyahu during the call to refrain from retaliating against Iran and to allow several days for diplomatic negotiations to unfold. Neither Netanyahu's office nor the White House has confirmed or issued any official statement regarding the call.
On the military front, Israeli army spokesman Effie Defrin declared Sunday that the military stood fully prepared to unleash "powerful strikes" against Iran the moment political authorization is granted. In a formal statement, Defrin said Israeli Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir had conducted a comprehensive security assessment with senior commanders, confirming the army's readiness to strike "the enemy" immediately upon receiving the green light.
Trump had earlier turned up the diplomatic pressure on Tehran, urging Iran to return to the negotiating table following its missile assault on Israel and suggesting a final agreement could be within reach within days.
"You've shot your missiles, that's enough. Get back to the table and make a deal," Trump told a news channel.
He added that a deal could potentially be signed "Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of this coming week" — signaling Washington's desire to de-escalate the crisis before it spirals further out of control.
Sunday's Iranian missile barrages targeting northern Israel — the first such bombardment since a fragile April ceasefire — were launched in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs, which Tel Aviv claimed had targeted a Hezbollah command and planning center. That strike killed two people and injured 11 others in a preliminary toll.
A temporary ceasefire had been brokered on April 8, but subsequent negotiations collapsed amid deepening disputes over its implementation and a series of destabilizing regional developments that followed.
